Shopping in York

You would think that I would be in shopping heaven here in the UK. If you thought that to be true, clearly you don't know me all that well. It's going to take a bit of time to find the ultimate shop that caters just for me, or maybe it ill be a combination of shops just like it is back home. Don't get me wrong, they have really nice stuff here, but really not anything I would be seen in. I mean I like the colour pink as much as the next barbie, but there is no way I'm going to buy & wear a pink jacket/coat or one with animal print on it! I know I'm from Africa, but come on!! And what's with the colours?? Is brown the season colour in York? Everything is brown & I mean everything, cute jackets & shoes that I would totally buy, but alas they are brown. =( I'm sorry I don't do brown, my skin tone is already brown, so why would I just add to that? It's so bland, boring & depressing.

Guess I will be shopping in another town or over the net. My mom must be rolling her eyes & thinking; "I told you...".

Note to self: design own clothes or get a designer friend =). Custom all the way!!!

New House =)

Just moved into my new home for the rest of the year & I'm really liking it. It has a red door!! A bit cold, but not too empty, which is awesome =). There was no need to buy kitchen stuff because that was all in place, just needs a bit of cleaning up that's all. The living area gets super warm when the heating is up & running. So far it is my fave room in the entire house. Now to get my room heated up & ready to go,this should be interesting since I've decided to go with a red wine/port colour theme for my room. I have a few ideas of things I'm going to put in there...it's going to be amazing I tell you =).

The kitchen, well... I'm hardly going to be in there anyway. The bathroom is cute & really big. yahoo!

I don't have all that much to say about my new place, other then I'm glad to have found it. It's a place that I can call home after a long day at Kings Manor. Well, it will be by the time I'm done with it. You know what I always say about a home; its not a place, but a feeling =).

Home Sick

...turning heads & staring at the ceiling, when you're around the world is rosey, when you're around you make me feel so cozy... HOME IS WHERE YOU ARE. HOME IS WHERE I WANT TO BE. WHERE EVER YOU ARE... REMEMBER HOME IS NOT A PLACE,BUT A FEELING...
I mis that feeling. Never for one moment did I ever consider having been popular back home. I was never really alone at the time even though it felt like it, here however it's a different story. I don't have that many people to call & go out with for coffee/wine. I miss that. Maybe I should take into consideration that I've only been here 2 weeks. It's going to take more time & effort on my part to get out there.

I've been super crazy busy over the past 2 weeks. It's basically been one assignment after another & then there was the presentations, got 2 to give tomorrow already. Sigh, my work is never done, but alas I've chosen this lifestyle for myself so I just have to deal. Can't wait for the holidays to kick in, that way I get to relax, sleep in & actually tour around York. Come to think of it, I'm going to be alone these holidays, no going home for me.

How i found myself in the library

Today has got to have been the coldest day ever. Walked out of the place I'm staying at and was greeted my the delicious cold wind with a touch of rain. I had no fear because I had my umbrella with me (yes, I now for the very first time in my life own an umbrella)! I didn't get very far with it, as son as I got around the corner the wind decided to mess with me a bit. Hanging onto the umbrella,as I did the bungee cord, I swear my feet left the ground and I started propelling in a forward fashion. It was ok though, because nobody in the street saw me,although I think the kids in the primary school may have had a good laugh...=)

Anyway, made it to Kings Manor intact and headed straight for the library, not because I'm a bookworm, geek or nerd (I am actually), but it was warm in there. I suppose I could have gone to the coffee shop next door, but then I would have been short on bus fare and dinner tonight. I m meant to finish and hand-in at least one of the two assignments due this Wednesday...library seemed like a good sanctuary. The topics re not all that stimulating, but then again they never really are now are they? Just got to bite the bullet. Ok, so the Kings Manor library...not that impressive really in my opinion. I mean this is where the archaeology department is, you would think that I would get lost in the vast valleys of books...nope. The archaeology section of the library can be found downstairs via a scary looking set of really small and narrow stairs. I mean how are my wide hips meant to negotiate that?

DON'T!!!

Right so Kings Manor archaeology section...a corner shelf! Yeah well, guess who had to go to the main campus library today? Did I go? Nope! I need to eat...

Zoology

OMG!!!! I am so ready to just pass out & not wake up for a long time. Over the past 4 days I think I have walked more than I've ever done before in my entire life! I miss Kiva so much :( . I better get really sexy legs after this!

Met Matthew & Oliver yesterday and must say that they seem pretty awesome. Oliver looks like he could be a mid-aged Brit rockstar with a hint of that Peter Perfect dude. I'm going to have so much fun! Then there was checking out Ed's house, it looked nice but empty (lack of furniture). then again its a really nice house and more spacious then the others that I've seen in my short time being here. Ed is...really sweet & talks a whole lot as well. It was just such a busy day filled with loads of walking. I've even managed to bust one of my toes up,don't know how that happened, but I'm immobile now. Like I said, it was a shitload of walking that I did & along these missions I bumped into Rafaela! It was just so random, we didn't even plan it, it just happened. Super cool chick she is, also got to meet Rezk & Anna on the same night as well. Yeah, more people that I know =).

Terry

The only class that I have on a Thursday is Zoology prac with Terry O'Connor. Now this class is from 12:15-16:15!! Too long for my attention span. Oh, its a class down in the crypt & Simone, you would jizz in your pants down here. There
"s a horse skellie at the front door! oh, and the zoo people are weird. I mean one guy was having happy dance moments while checking out a snake skellie. They even kept the scales!! Ok, well I met Ameri, she's Irish and super sweet. During this session I got introduced to rodents! I spent an entire afternoon looking at rodent, watervoles and shrews. Then went through owl pellets and found interesting creatures. I just have to say that rodents have disgusting teeth. Also managed to find a shrew paw with the fur on it! There was a little scream session that I had in the crypt while checking this out under the microscope =)

Adventure!!!

Ok, so I've spent an entire day in York now and must say that I can do this forever. The time is 16:57 now and I just got out of class with Terry O'Connor. Sitting at Starbucks having my dinner, which cost me no more than #7, for  grilled sandwich and a really huge mug of cappichino. This sandwich is really good!! Looking out the window in front of me is the Minster building. The most amazing building I have ever seen in what seems to be Gothic architecture.

So class today was alright, my first class was easy. I can see myself sailing through it fairly smoothly, O'Connor's class on the other hand...such  bore and a huge challenge for me. What would life be without them anyway...

They say the weather here is a tad bit crazy, but I think I got it figured out. Just like back home, cold in the morning, warmer as the day progresses, and freezing at night. Then again it is only their autumn here, which I find to being the equivalent to a South African winter. Shops are really cool up here, everything everywhere!! I got lost on my way to Kings Manor this morning walking through the city center, but hey...adventure!!! Still trying to settle in,but York is a tourist attraction so I don't really feel out of place. I just wish all my family and mates could be here with me. Then my almost perfect life will start to take shape. Right now its just not there yet.

Its getting a bit dark out,but still safe to walk around. In fact there re loads of people all about. I just hope I can be happy here. The original text to this blog ventures deeper into my feelings of why I left home and the void I'm hoping it will fill, but that is an entry for another day, another blog.

Got horribly lost on the way back home. I ended up being on the opposite end of town from the place I'm staying at. Passed by  police car, felt safe until I saw the wanted for murder poster on the back of the car! Well at least I bumped into a hottie on the RIGHT way home this time, it was so random. Could hardly understand what he was saying most of the time, but hey he was really cute. Besides I was kinda distracted by his looks, I think at one point I was staring at his lips. In my defense I was trying to figure out what he was saying to me by lip reading ;)
